Jerry is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, “If I were any better, I would be twins!” He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant.

The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, I don’t get it! You can’t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?” Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself – Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.

I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.

“Yeah, right, it’s not that easy,” I protested. “Yes, it is,” Jerry said. “Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It’s your choice how you live life.”

I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gun point by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was discharged from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Wanna see my scars?” I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,” Jerry replied. “Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live.”

“Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked. Jerry continued, “…the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read ‘he’s a dead man.’

I knew I needed to take action.” “What did you do?” I asked. “Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic to anything. ’Yes,’ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Bullets!’ Over their laughter, I told them, ‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.’”

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

Positive thinking is the first step towards a happy life.

If everyone applies just these, the whole world will live in happiness.

Choose Right Thoughts

Our thoughts become our words, and our words affect our feelings and actions. Therefore, it is vitally important that we choose life-generating thoughts. When we do, right words will follow.

“Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. Romans 8:6

Notes:

• God is changing leadership of the Arabic Church, some will be called and some will insist to stay without a call.
• It is time to hear the Lord for the Land, and it is time to be qualified for the call.
• The call of God will give Grace to continue, listen to the Lord at this time and ask the Lord for a new, fresh call. God may renew the call and give grace or you may move with the heart and feeling of the flesh and miss your chance.
• The church of Kuwait is passing through a time like Abraham, to choose the promised son (God’s way) or to find an earthly way and get Ishmael.

Add to your Prayer Chain

Please pray for God’s people to obey and choose the way God wants them to follow, not what they feel to do or what the need “tells” them to do.

Special prayer for the Pastor to hear what the Lord says about his stay in Kuwait and if it is God’s time for him to leave or stay. Pray that he discern God’s hand in all this and God’s desire to heal the Land either by his stay or even by him leaving. It is time to pray as a responsible servant of God, not as a father to a family.

Pray also for the people who God calls to leave their jobs and set themselves apart for his service.

More prayers needed for the Churches pastors to listen to God’s voice and obey at this time of shifting.

We care for the reputation of Kuwait, we love Kuwait, and we pray for the peace of the nation, we bless the Al Sobah family. We support the government and pray for wisdom to the parliament members. That is why we want to see Kuwait as a blameless nation.

The ministry of social affairs is doing a TREMENDOUS job going after the sponsors who are misusing the law.

Pray for Kuwait.com is calling the world believers to join in a prayer call for freedom from that modern slavery; it is not in Kuwait only but in the whole Gulf area of the Middle East.

Bahrain started to fight against slavery / sponsorship laws and we pray that the rest of the countries will follow.

In Kuwait, you could not do business without a Kuwaiti Sponsor, you could not own land or your house, even if you have a car accident and you go to the police station, you need a Kuwait to Sponsor you in order to be released from the police station.

If you are not happy with your work and you want to leave, you could not leave the country unless your Sponsor releases you – your Sponsor has the ability to ban you from traveling. In some organizations they keep your passport at the office in order to control you.

Being a non Kuwaiti in a country like Kuwait, makes life is hard…

The government is not accepting the bad behavior of the sponsors, but as long as the law is there, people are using it is a bad way.

After the case of the pastor who was about to be kicked out of the country in Feb. 2009, many cases happened and a red alarm start to blink. If we will not take it seriously, and seek the Lord for it, NOTHING will change.

We believe when this law will change, the freedom that will come to the nation will bring this nation to the destiny God wants in it.

We are calling for 1460 PRAYER WARRIERS to pray day and night for this law to be broken , 4 warriers every day for one year , starting 1st. Jan. 2010 till 31st. of Dec. 2010. And we believe that God hears prayer.

Praise Points:

We prayed for most of the points below during the last year or so, but the interesting facts in the reports linked above is that they touch the exact points we prayed for on many occasions, such as points 4, 6 and 7! Praise the Lord!!

1- The Spirit of the Lord spoke over Kuwait to be he first nation at Gulf to have religious freedom.
Please pray that these kinds of reports encourage His Highness the Amir to declair the religion freedom.

2- Pray for the approval of Christain schools in Kuwait.

3- Pray that the lot of citizinship be changed and new laws passed to give anyone the right to Kuwaiti citizenship, not only for Muslims.

4- We prayed before for legal permission for Christain schools and to allow the building of new churches. As the reports indicate, some progress is happening. Keep praying!

5- Pray for the freedom to evanglize out side the walls of the church.

6- We prayed before for Christian bookstores to get permission to open shops in Kuwait; the report urges the government to give permision for those bookshops.

7- Pray for the influence of the IPC (Islamic Presentation Committee) which, by law, are allowed to convert non-moslims to Islam, without giving the churches the right to reach out to Muslims and talk about Christ.

Friends, this is amazing testimony to how our specific prayers have been specifically answered and will continue to be answered as we continue to pray for Kuwait.

I read a statistic that we make more decisions in one day than people used to make in one year.
No wonder we’re stressed out. And note, all this craziness and fast-track living isn’t going away. So what can we do to develop a stress free lifestyle?

1. Identify your stressors.

Unless you identify and address your stress buttons, you’ll not be able to deal with them effectively. Make a list, “I get stressed out when.…” Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what causes you to overload and why. He loves to help.

2. Make an action plan to tame your stressors. After you identify your stress buttons, make a plan to eliminate them. For example, if you’re always running late, set your clock 10 minutes early. This “extra” time will give you peace. If you tend to lose your keys, find a “hiding” place and develop the habit of always putting them there.

3. Plan ahead and tell people what you expect. As a parent, employer or pastor, we interact with other people. They need to know our expectations and how to achieve them. Coaching and training and creating boundaries will help those we are responsible for to know our expectations, keeping both them and you – stress free!

4. Get physical. Put exercise on your weekly schedule. When you break a sweat exercising, your body releases endorphins – a natural chemical that alleviate stress. Scientists have discovered that laughter also triggers this hormone and causes stress levels to go down. Are you laughing regularly?

5. Eat the real stuff. Until recently, I didn’t have a clue what’s healthy and what’s not. The Lord dropped it in my heart to do some research and I found a lot of my favorite food such as shrimp, pork and coke were not so healthy. God helped me make radical changes. You’ll be amazed how food and drink affect your body and mood.

6. Have a scheduled time to go to bed and wake up. We have less time to sleep today than 100 years ago, and it is taking its toll according to researchers. But regular sleeping patterns can help us. The secret is to train ourselves to go to sleep and wake up at a consistent time everyday. (And remember to turn off the cell phone!)

7. Be a better steward of your money. A number one cause of stress is money or the lack thereof. If you take care of the priorities first (tithes, saving, paying bills, utilities and credit cards) everything else will fall in place.

8. Get it off your chest. Talk to a friend or partner about your stress. Sometimes just getting it off your chest can help unload some of the burden.

9. Stay grateful. I know an asthma patient who literally struggles to get a breath of fresh air! How thankful he is to God for every breath he can get. Take time to count your blessings and tell Him you are grateful.

10. Slow Down and Lighten Up. I hear so many people say, “I don’t have time…” The fact of the matter is – you will have time for whatever you want to make time for. Write down what’s priority in your life right now (they change). Enjoy the time you have and remember to laugh, even in the face of stress. God is with you in all things.
