According to reports, Kuwaiti royal prince has become a follower of Jesus Christ. In an audio file posted with his name, he affirms that if he is killed because of a recording he made where he talks about his conversion, he firmly believes that he will meet Jesus Christ face-to-face.

The news comes from Middle Eastern sources which state that al-Haqiqa – a Christian satellite TV channel in Arabic that transmits Christian religious programmes – broadcast an audio file attributed to the Kuwaiti prince, identified as Abdullah al-Sabah. The al-Sabahs are the royal family of Kuwait, a country rich in oil. The name Abdullah (servant of God) frequently appears in the Emir’s family tree.

In his audio file, Abdullah declared: “First of all, I fully agree with the distribution of this audio file and I now declare that if they kill me because of it, then I will appear before Jesus Christ and be with him for all eternity.” In this statement, the prince demonstrates his awareness of the fate in store for a martyr of the faith, according to Christian doctrine.

Mohabat News, a Christian Iranian website which has been following the fate of Christian minorities in the Middle East closely and which has monitored Abdullah’s statement, confirms that this news was published briefly by Arabic news agencies and also by the Iranian state news agency.

Although other reports say this is a hoax and that “no one by that name is in the Kuwaiti royal family”. However, it could be that Abdullah al-Sabah is a pseudonym taken on by a real convert to hide his true identity.

Whatever the case, since we are praying for Kuwait, it is certain that royalty as well as citizens will receive the Good News of the Kingdom of God. I certainly would only be surprised if some did not. Let us continue to pray for the royal family of Kuwait!

Iranian Imam Receives Christ Via Satellite TV, Escapes Country

One of the top Islamic leaders in Iran accepted Christ and left the country after facing death threats and imprisonment, according to an Iranian pastor living in the U.S.

“This man has been watching Christian TV programs for the past two years,” said Pastor Elnathan Baghestani, founder of Iran for Christ Ministries (ICM). Pastor Baghestani and his wife provide Christian programming to the Mohabat Network satellite, which broadcasts 24/7 into Iran and other Middle Eastern countries..

The Imam called one of the phone counselors connected to Iran for Christ Ministries and prayed to receive Christ in early February. “The man has been watching Christian TV programs for the past two years,” Baghestani said. “He said he has believed since he began watching the programs but his salvation was sealed through his confession.”

“This man knows all the verses of the Qur’an by heart,” he added. “After he began watching, doubt began in his heart about the Islamic faith.” The man spent [time] in prison after he questioned the violence of radical Islam. Following his release from prison, he faced numerous death threats, [but then] escaped the country.

Several other religious leaders may follow suit. “He knows four other high-ranking Imams that are in the same condition and want to leave Iran,” Baghestani said. (It is illegal to own satellite dishes in Iran.) “They arrest people for having satellite dishes because they know the Christian programming is effective,” Baghestani noted.

The Imam who fled, left everything behind. “Now he is a poor refugee in a foreign country.”

“God is shaking the foundation of Islam in Iran,” Baghestani said. “We have been praying for some of the main government officials to come to Christ and God is answering us,” he reports. “I pray God will open more doors for us to send the Gospel to the Middle East.”

Kuwait Before Islam

Before the spread of Islam in the seventh century, Eastern Arabia and the Gulf region was truly at the crossroads of religious belief. The population consisted of nomadic tribes that were Jewish, Christian, Zoroastrian or pagan, influenced by the variety of religious beliefs found in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Persia. The prominence of these faiths, however, dwindled when the majority of the Arab tribes embraced Islam by force. By the late seventeenth century, the Bani Khalid tribe had gained control over Eastern Arabia, and in building the first city that lies in present day Kuwait,
began to establish the permanence that Islam has maintained in the area until today.

Religious Freedom

Islam is the state religion; although the Constitution provides for freedom of religion, the Government places some limits on this right. The Constitution also provides that the State protect the freedom to practice religion in accordance with established customs, “provided that it does not conflict with public policy or morals.” The Constitution states that Shari’a (Islamic law) is “a main source of legislation.”

Christians and other religious minorities enjoy an unusual amount of religious freedom. Kuwait truly exemplifies the words of its constitution, which states that “freedom of belief is absolute,” and that “the State protects the freedom of practicing religion in accordance with established customs, provided that it does not conflict with public policy or morals.” The Christian community’s history in Kuwait began in the early 1900′s with a number of humanitarian projects conducted by missionaries from the Reformed Church of America. Most notable among them was the establishment of a hospital (“the American Hospital” is still fondly remembered by older Kuwaitis).

First Church In Kuwait

In 1931, the first church in Kuwait was built on a parcel of land granted to the hospital, where the National Evangelical Church stands today. Also many Bookshops were selling the bible and many Kuwaiti Families were buying it. Suddenly, without known reasons, the Government stops selling the bible in 1951 at the street corners and the book stores.

The oil boom had attracted many foreigners to Kuwait, thereby expanding the Christian community, and two more churches were constructed, one of them Roman Catholic. Today, the state authorities officially recognize three principal churches: the National Evangelical Church of Kuwait (Protestant),  the Roman Catholic Church and the Roman Orthodox Church. Smaller churches generally ally themselves with one of these larger “umbrella” churches.

Kuwaiti Christians Families

There are some 350 Kuwaiti Christians by birth today, most of whom belong to 12 large families ,A landmark occurrence for Kuwait’s Evangelical community was the ordination of a Kuwaiti citizen as priest and pastor of National Evangelical Church on January 8, 1999. Emmanuel Benjamin Gharib, born in Kuwait in 1950 and educated in Egypt, is the first Gulf Arab to become head of any Protestant church. “We all feel proud of being Kuwaitis,” he declared. “We were among those who stayed here during the Iraqi occupation.” Gharib told the Kuwaiti press that he planned to initiate Muslim-Christian dialogues in order “to show love for our home which has nearly 200 Christian citizens.” The Evangelical Church embraces more than 40 Evangelical denominations and is frequented by a diverse community of about 16,000 worshippers throughout the week.

Churches in Kuwait

Most of the Christian faithful come from the expatriate population in the State of Kuwait. The number of Christians presently in Kuwait after 55 years since its modest beginnings is roughly 400,000.:

-The Catholic Vicariate is largely made up of Asians from India, the Philipines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Arab Christians from Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and Syria which make up roughly 75,000 members (Maronite Christians also worship at the Catholic cathedral in Kuwait city).

-The Anglican (Episcopalian) Church, has around 115 members (several thousand other Christians use the Anglican Church for worship services).

-The National Evangelical Church (Protestant), with 3 main congregations (Arabic, English, and Malayalee) has around 16,000 members (several other Christian denominations also worship at the National Evangelical Church Compound).

-The Greek Orthodox Church (referred to locally as the “Roman Orthodox” Church), has 3,500 members

-The Armenian Orthodox Church, has 4,000 members.

-The Coptic Orthodox Church, has 60,000 members.

-The Greek Catholic (Eastern Rite) Church membership totals are unavailable

There are other Christian denominations in the country, with tens of thousands of members. These denominations include Seventh-Day Adventists, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), Marthoma, and the Indian Orthodox Syrian Church

Prayer Points:

1- Christian Book Stores
Pray that the Holy Spirit to reveal the reasons for closing those book stores in Kuwait at 1951. Pray that the Lord will open the door again and allow opening a new book stores, that sells the Bible in Kuwait Major Malls not only inside the Churches.

2- Kuwaiti Nationality:
in 1981 the Islamic Party managed to make a law that gives the Kuwaiti Nationality only for Muslims. pray that this law will be Cancelled and Christian believers can get the Kuwaiti Nationality.

3- Immigrations Laws /Sponsors
By law, you could not stay in Kuwait without a Kuwaiti sponsor, who controls you in the country and able to cancel your residency at any time he wants. We believe that this is a slavery spirit which controls the expatriates. Pray for breaking this spirit and changing the immigrations laws .

4- Religious freedom
Pray for new laws that gives people the freedom to choose their religion

5- Christian Families in Kuwait
Pray for Salvation to those Kuwaitis, not only to be believers but also Ambassadors for the Lord and Claims Kuwait for Jesus.

6- Pastor Emmanuel Gharib
Pray for Pastor Emmanuel to be a channel of blessings to the other Kuwaitis Christian and non-Christians .Pray for Grace & Favour for him to ask for new laws that support Christians & Religion freedom in Kuwait.

7- Christians expatriates Believers
Due to the minority of Christians in Islamic country like Kuwait, and the Sponsoring issue , the Christian could not witness their Faith Freely. Pray for new mentality for Christian believers that enable them to witness in their works and among their Muslim friends. Break the spirit of FEAR over their hearts

8- New churches buildings
Pray for the Government to give Lands to build new Churches.

9- Pastors of the churches
Pray for Unity among the pastors of Churches in Kuwait, to have one heart to pray for the Peace to this nation

Notes:

• God is changing leadership of the Arabic Church, some will be called and some will insist to stay without a call.
• It is time to hear the Lord for the Land, and it is time to be qualified for the call.
• The call of God will give Grace to continue, listen to the Lord at this time and ask the Lord for a new, fresh call. God may renew the call and give grace or you may move with the heart and feeling of the flesh and miss your chance.
• The church of Kuwait is passing through a time like Abraham, to choose the promised son (God’s way) or to find an earthly way and get Ishmael.

Add to your Prayer Chain

Please pray for God’s people to obey and choose the way God wants them to follow, not what they feel to do or what the need “tells” them to do.

Special prayer for the Pastor to hear what the Lord says about his stay in Kuwait and if it is God’s time for him to leave or stay. Pray that he discern God’s hand in all this and God’s desire to heal the Land either by his stay or even by him leaving. It is time to pray as a responsible servant of God, not as a father to a family.

Pray also for the people who God calls to leave their jobs and set themselves apart for his service.

More prayers needed for the Churches pastors to listen to God’s voice and obey at this time of shifting.

Islamic World In Turmoil

As regimes topple in North Africa and shakings threaten Middle East leaders, could this be the breaking down of a wall of Islam many have predicted for years? Or will it have the opposite effect? Will it strengthen extremism and create an open door for radical Islamist groups to take power?

In the space of just weeks the impossible happened in the Muslim world. Starting in Tunisia December 17, 2010, Mohammed Bouazizi’s suicide started revolts against repressive regimes in the region. The Tunisian government was quickly overthrown and people in Algeria, Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Jordan, and several other countries began demonstrations.

For those of us who have been praying and working into this area of the world for years, we are amazed and rejoicing at all God is doing. Nevertheless, it is too soon to abandon prayer for the region and assume the job is done. We need to listen to God’s prophetic voice and continue to pray and intercede in accordance for the people.

We care for the reputation of Kuwait, we love Kuwait, and we pray for the peace of the nation, we bless the Al Sobah family. We support the government and pray for wisdom to the parliament members. That is why we want to see Kuwait as a blameless nation.

The ministry of social affairs is doing a TREMENDOUS job going after the sponsors who are misusing the law.

Pray for Kuwait.com is calling the world believers to join in a prayer call for freedom from that modern slavery; it is not in Kuwait only but in the whole Gulf area of the Middle East.

Bahrain started to fight against slavery / sponsorship laws and we pray that the rest of the countries will follow.

In Kuwait, you could not do business without a Kuwaiti Sponsor, you could not own land or your house, even if you have a car accident and you go to the police station, you need a Kuwait to Sponsor you in order to be released from the police station.

If you are not happy with your work and you want to leave, you could not leave the country unless your Sponsor releases you – your Sponsor has the ability to ban you from traveling. In some organizations they keep your passport at the office in order to control you.

Being a non Kuwaiti in a country like Kuwait, makes life is hard…

The government is not accepting the bad behavior of the sponsors, but as long as the law is there, people are using it is a bad way.

After the case of the pastor who was about to be kicked out of the country in Feb. 2009, many cases happened and a red alarm start to blink. If we will not take it seriously, and seek the Lord for it, NOTHING will change.

We believe when this law will change, the freedom that will come to the nation will bring this nation to the destiny God wants in it.

We are calling for 1460 PRAYER WARRIERS to pray day and night for this law to be broken , 4 warriers every day for one year , starting 1st. Jan. 2010 till 31st. of Dec. 2010. And we believe that God hears prayer.

Praise Points:

We prayed for most of the points below during the last year or so, but the interesting facts in the reports linked above is that they touch the exact points we prayed for on many occasions, such as points 4, 6 and 7! Praise the Lord!!

1- The Spirit of the Lord spoke over Kuwait to be he first nation at Gulf to have religious freedom.
Please pray that these kinds of reports encourage His Highness the Amir to declare the religion freedom.

2- Pray for the approval of Christian schools in Kuwait.

3- Pray that the lot of citizenship be changed and new laws passed to give anyone the right to Kuwaiti citizenship, not only for Muslims.

4- We prayed before for legal permission for Christian schools and to allow the building of new churches. As the reports indicate, some progress is happening. Keep praying!

5- Pray for the freedom to evangelize out side the walls of the church.

6- We prayed before for Christian bookstores to get permission to open shops in Kuwait; the report urges the government to give permission for those bookshops.

7- Pray for the influence of the IPC (Islamic Presentation Committee) which, by law, are allowed to convert non-Muslims to Islam, without giving the churches the right to reach out to Muslims and talk about Christ.

Friends, this is amazing testimony to how our specific prayers have been specifically answered and will continue to be answered as we continue to pray for Kuwait.

Pray for Malaysia

Malaysia remains a key part of the Muslim world in Southeast Asia. With a burgeoning population of 24 million, 60% of whom are Malay Muslims, the nation’s influence is significant in the region. Dramatic political changes have impacted Malaysia, but of special significance is the growing focus on reaching the Malay with the love of Jesus.

The Malays have been much neglected throughout the history of Christian outreach. But praise God, now there are more believers focused on reaching the Malay than ever before. Increasing numbers of national believers (Chinese, Indians, and tribal people) are seeking to proclaim their faith with respect to their Muslim neighbours and colleagues. Several pioneer communities of faith have been established among Malay Muslim-background-believers.

Prayer Starters:

* Pray for the emergence of spiritual leaders among the Malay to proclaim the Gospel, teach, and pastor their own people.
* Pray for God’s working through the recently completed contextualized Malay language Scriptures, as Malays have opportunity to read them.
* Pray for the believers across Malaysia, to be salt and light and an instrument in God’s hands for the unreached Malay.
* Pray for God’s stirring (perhaps through dreams and visions) in the hearts of Malays. Pray that many other Malay-related unreached peoples across Southeast Asia will hunger to know God.

3- Immigrations Laws /Sponsors

“A country falls into Tier 3 if its government is not making a significant effort to combat human trafficking. A Tier 3 country can be sanctioned if it doesn’t take seriously antislavery action in the next 90 days. Sadly, this year the list of countries on Tier 3 has grown to — due to a lack of effort by these governments to combat this serious transnational crime. There are a total of 16 countries on Tier 3, seven of which dropped down to Tier 3 this year: Algeria, Bahrain, Equatorial Guinea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman and Qatar.

It’s especially disappointing that so many wealthy countries in the Near East that aren’t lacking adequate resources to make significant progress are on Tier 3. For instance, Saudi Arabia is on Tier 3 for the third year. These are countries in that region that rely extensively on foreign migrant laborers. Practices such as sponsorship laws create conditions that make guest workers especially vulnerable to trafficking in the region. Sponsorship laws give employers extensive personal authority over workers, allowing them to control movement and legal status. These — there are cases of workers escaping abuse in private homes or work sites. They flee to local police. But if their sponsor denies them an exit permit to leave the country, the exploited workers are effectively held hostage in a shelter or a police detention center, sometimes for years. The power given to sponsors over foreign workers should be limited and counterbalanced with rights for workers to seek legal redress and governments in destination countries should be more active in protecting workers.”
