for Kuwait .comStanding in the gap for the Kuwaiti people
Kuwaiti's are known for their warmth and friendship. Here are some other facts to help you intercede for the men, women and children in this small but important country.
Kuwaitis tend to have strong attachments to their families. Families are often large and interconnected and related to one another through ancestry and marriage. God loves to save whole families, but sometimes you may have to break strongholds in the ancestral line.
Kuwait is a very religious, conservative Sunni-Muslim dominated country. It is run by Sharia law which is also quite conservative, but not as harsh as in neighbouring Saudi Arabia. In Islam, there is no separation of "state and church" and thus Islam and the Koran govern all aspects of life. Being religious in any form can be a barrier to understanding the simple gospel.
During Ramadan, most restaurants and businesses are closed during the day and even visitors can get in trouble for eating, drinking, or smoking during daylight hours. Many businesses are also closed on Fridays and Muslim holy days. When praying during Ramadan for Kuwaiti's, pray that they will receive dreams and visions about Jesus, something that happens alot in Kuwait.
Kuwait is an interesting mix of old world and new when it comes to clothing, though overall the country is very conservative in its dress. You'll see traditional dress, including dishdashas and abayas and some extremely expensive fashions, and lots of gold. Men and women do not expose themselves. Unaccompanied men are sometimes restricted from entering restaurants and shopping areas reserved for families. Alcohol, drugs and pornographic material is all illegal in Kuwait, which is good. One of Islam's strengths is of course such values. However, we know that the law does not make one free, so pray too for freedom in the hearts of the people.
