Kuwait's Destiny - 85% Muslim?

Pray for transformation and reformation among all the peoples of Kuwait

To help you pray for Kuwait we have prepared some background materials. As you follow each link you will find more. Our Blog allows your input.

A hundred years ago, Christian missionaries came to Kuwait and started medical missions. The foundation they laid continues today. The Kuwaiti government not only allows Christianity to flourish, but also provides many church buildings and a huge compound for the National Evangelical Church. On any given week, 40,000 Orthodox, Coptic, Catholic and Protestant people use the facilities to hold services.

Kuwait is a blessed nation although a very small one compared to the other surrounded countries; Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Iran. The whole world heard about Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion in 1990.

Kuwait is a lighthouse in the Arabian Gulf and a gateway to the Middle East. Christians in Kuwait believe the Lord has called them to bring the news of salvation to the surrounding nations. They know they have a great God-given destiny. In Kuwait, the pastors say the Lord reminds them to be a Bethlehem – small but giving birth to something great for God. (Micah 5:2)

Kuwait has been able to build an extensive educational system, yielding a literacy rate of 90 percent. This gives an excellent opportunity for young people to be reached through literature and one prayer is that bibles will again be allowed to go on sale in Kuwait.

The earliest inhabitants of Kuwait were originally from the Arazia Bedouin tribes who migrated from central Arabia to escape drought in the 18th Century. Attacks from the Wahabi tribes in the interior caused them to seek protection from Great Britain in the early 19th century. This close relationship continued until 1914 when independence was agreed and finally completed in 1961.

Christians have freedom to praise and worship, as long it is not outside of the church walls.

Pray with us for:

* Salvation: many Kuwaitis are seeking the Lord, mainly through watching the satellite channels. We pastors need to be able to disciple, train and equip others to reach the seekers. Pray for this.

* Buildings: Pray for Government permission to build more churches.

* Vision: Pray pastors will have the mentality of pastoring the city through Kingdom vision not church vision.

* Leadership: pray for Godly leadership of the major churches.

* Marketplace: pray that both Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti believers will have a marketplace mentality to reach out through their business to the non-believers.

* Women: pray for release among Christian women to minister to other Kuwaiti and non Kuwaitis.

* Evangelizing: pray for religious freedom by Kuwaiti law in order to go beyond the four walls of the church and reach the non-believers.

* Bookshops: in 1951 the Christian bookshop was shut down. Pray for the opening of new bookshops with permission to sell Bibles.

* Persecution: Christian satellite stations are now being broadcast around the Middle East and making an impact. They are predicting an increase in persecution. Pray that the local Christians can stand firm.

* Families: pray for strong family bonds despite frequent traveling and the long studies abroad. May the youth find Jesus while away.
