Judge oil minister on performance, not wrongly-worded statement: MP; ‘Give Sheikh Ali opportunity to deal with violations’

May 23rd, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Breaking news, Prayer

Arab Times , KUWAIT CITY: With both the Popular Bloc and National Bloc increasing the heat on him and leading a tireless campaign to oust him from the Cabinet, Oil Minister Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah says he has left the issue of his resignation in the hands of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah. A reliable governmental source said Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah’s resignation will depend on the nature of the grilling motion expected to be submitted next week by MPs Musallam Al-Barrak and Faisal Al-Muslem, and the number of MPs who support the grilling. On the same issue, MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei said “we should judge Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah on his performance and not on the basis of a wrongly worded statement. We should give the minister a final opportunity to deal with the violations, which were revealed by MPs.”

Bid to defuse standoff; Amir urges MPs to work with Cabinet

May 23rd, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Breaking news

Aab Times - KUWAIT (RTRS): HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah urged parliament on Monday to cooperate more with the government, weighing in to defuse a standoff that is threatening to delay key legislation. Kuwait’s parliament, which has a history of challenging the cabinet in a region where the public has little say, has been caught in a row with the government that led to the resignation of the last cabinet in March. Despite vows of a fresh start by the new line-up, deputies attacked Oil Minister Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah last week for seeking advice from a cousin who was investigated several years ago on suspicion of a role in an embezzlement case at a state oil firm.
Another parliament session ended in turmoil after deputies accused each other of misusing public funds, prompting Sheikh Sabah to tell Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi that deputies should focus on legislating.

Taken from Arab Times - KUWAIT CITY: “I am planning to invite all MPs for a meeting in my office Monday afternoon to deliver a fatherly message from HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah and discuss other important issues in the interest of Kuwait,” says Parliament Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi. Al-Khorafi made this remark after meeting HH the Amir on Saturday. Sources say Al-Khorafi is still upset with the language used in the Parliament recently when the first report of the Public Fund Protection Committee was discussed. May 19th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Breaking news

Taken from Arab Times - KUWAIT CITY: With many MPs intent on grilling him, Oil Minister Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah may resign on Sunday, say sources. “He will take a final decision on whether to continue in the Cabinet after meeting HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah,” they added. Meanwhile, Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah, who is in Egypt on an official visit, said “I will not talk about my resignation at this stage. Kuwait is a free country and everybody has the right to take his own decision.” Minister of Communications and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Sharida Al-Meosherji said “in its meeting the Cabinet will spend sometime to discuss this issue and listen to Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah’s explanations on the alleged public funds violations committed by him.”
