I was looking around the Internet to see what kinds of blogs are listed for Kuwait and what exactly people are blogging about. While a number of the blogs were of a personal diary format, I was surprised to see a whole community of bloggers trying to make an impact with their words.
Along with these useful blogs, I also found a few summaries of the influence of Kuwaiti blogs and trends which vary, say between Kuwait and the UAE. For instance, below is an insert from the World Politics Watch site:
Kuwaiti bloggers took advantage of several windows of opportunity over the course of 2011. After gaining an audience with their coverage of the succession crisis following the Arab Spring, many of these blogs picked up a campaign to reduce the number of electoral districts from 25 to 5 in order to cut back on notoriously corrupt electoral practices. When calling for elections, blogs jumped into the fray with a vengeance, highlighting corruption and driving the debate (with blog postings often showing up in newspapers). The Kuwaiti case is particularly interesting since most observers had seen the Kuwaiti blogosphere as relatively disengaged from politics and marginal to the public realm.
Interesting! What is being said here is that a certain influence, hopefully for good, can come from all the words being produced about Kuwait.
This of course should not come as a surprise – the power of the written word is indeed a sword. But somehow learning about the specific examples of Kuwaiti blogs is encouraging. If we can get some good influence through this blog, not just with prayer for Kuwait but also with the written word, then something good has happened.
